The end of 2019 and the beginning of 2020 found us in Cyprus. Our greatest joy is to travel, so we decided to go somewhere its warm. So we searched for flights and accommodation for all three. Yes, yes, yes we went with our daughter, Anastasia. Blue Air offered us an excellent price of 350 euros for everyone, and the accommodation in Larnaca was excellent, at the same price, found on Booking.com, a wonderful apartment opposite Flamingo beach.
The transportation in Cyprus is well set up, with several buses running (here's the link with the bus schedule and routes) at well-established times, even the taxi is an option, the prices are very good. When we landed, the transfer from the airport was by taxi (15 euros), and at the departure by bus (3 euros for both, the girl traveled free in all means of transport).
Because we visited Cyprus during the holidays on certain days we found it closed to several objectives, but that did not stop us to walk, relax and enjoy the restaurants and pubs in the area, and especially to eat a plenty of delicious Turkish and Greek dishes. In Larnaca we ate at the Portokali restaurant, The Bar-Grill, Stephanos Taverna, Hans and Gretel.
We visited : 1. The medieval castle of Larnaca (fort) is at the end of the promenade and the beginning of Finikoudes beach and was built in the Middle Ages in order to defend the port.
2. The church of Saint Lazarus was built in the 9th century to house the tomb of Lazarus of Bethany. According to tradition, after Lazar was resurrected from the dead by Christ, the fear of the Jews came to Cyprus, where he was to be ordained bishop of Kition by St. Paul. Saint Lazar has lived in Larnaca for 30 years.
3. Salt Lake is home to many flamingos in winter, but also swans. Here you can admire a modque, Hall of Sultan Tekke built in honor of Umm Haram. I saw the flamingo birds but they were far from the observation area, so I couldn't take close-up pictures of them.
4. Finikoudes, Flamingo and Mackenzie beaches are beautiful and have a blue flag, so swimming is allowed, the water getting deep enough offshore. From here you can see the marvelous planes flying over the water near the shore, and Mackenzie Beach which is crossed by airplanes daily even from ten to ten minutes.
5. The port is a beauty, it accommodates numerous boats, with many of them you can make numerous trips to the sea.
6. Nicosia is the capital of Cyprus and is the only one in the world that is divided by a "green line" and divided into the northern, Turkish and southern parts, Greek. The walk through the capital was nice, I visited Famagusta Gate, Ledra street - being known as a shopping area, full of shops and cafes and a mosque. Here we ate at CU Cafe on Ledras Street an amazing pizza.
7. Limassol is the second largest city in Cyprus and is located in the Akrotiri Bay on the southern coast of the island. I visited the old port, the Medieval Castle, the Promenade, the Church, the Old Amathus where Theseus left Ariadne pregnant, the Sanctuary of Apollo. We ate in the port at The Fish Market a Fish Meze for big days. Exactly at the promenade in Limassol is a wonderful playground, only good for children, and in the harbour are plenty of attractions for children, we got in the wheel (the view is beautiful). Being Christmas, I also found a fair organized by them, with traditional goodies and attractions for children.
